

As part of its long term commitment to building sustainable societies through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, employees of Access Bank (Ghana) Limited embarked on 14 different charity initiatives across the country intended to invest back in the communities within which the bank operates.
The various projects were targeted mainly at education, health and the less privileged in society.
The initiative formed part of the Banks Employee Volunteering Programme which allows employees to offer their time, expertise and other resources to support project of real value to communities in which the bank operates.
Speaking to the media on the success of these projects, Matilda Asante-Asiedu, Head of Corporate Communications at Access Bank Ghana noted;â€ÂWe’ve been overwhelmed by the massive response and participation rate of staff this past year in actualizing these volunteer activities.
The impact was phenomenal as the various projects touched the lives of more than one thousand individuals, families and institutions across the countryâ€Â.
According to Matilda, “staff from all 39 office locations of the Bank numbering about 790, were constituted into 14 clusters to embark on the various community investments and social intervention programmes across the country during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Beneficiary institutions under the Access Bank volunteer programme include:
Health institutions: Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi, – refurbishment of children’s ward and donation of equipment; Efia Nkwanta Regional hospital – donation of equipment and bills settlement at the pediatric ward;  La General Hospital – donation of equipment and a clean-up of the Surgical and Recovery wards as well as the Out Patients Department;  National Blood Bank – Blood donation exercise and NHIS – registration of 169 children to access quality healthcare at Amasaman.
Education
Tuobodom Secondary and Technical School ICT centre – supply of building
materials for refurbishment; James Town Sempe Primary School – refurbishment of computer laboratory, supply of computers and printer; and Salvation Army School for Street Girls – donation of classroom furniture.
Orphanages
The bank is also supporting Noyuini Orphanage Tamale with the donation of a refrigerator, sanitary and food items; ï€ Royal Seed orphanage, Central Region – donation of sanitary and food items; and Save Them Young Orphanage -Bethlehem, near Ashaiman, refurbishment of canteen, donation of food items, clothing, toys and sanitary supplies.
Others:
Painting the Administration block of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, Accra, clean-up and donation of the food items; Donation and Mentoring Sessions at the following institutions; the Junior Girls’ Correctional and Boys’ Remand Home, La Shelter for Abused Children; and South Labone Girls’ Vocation Training Centre, La.
Over the last three years, Access Bank (Ghana) Limited has also continuously demonstrated a strong commitment to social sector investments in line with the Bank’s strategy of contributing to the long-term sustainable development of its operating environment.
In 2012, the Bank donated over $87,000 to the National Hajj committee to ensure smooth housing and logistics planning towards the pilgrims. These social sector investments contributed to the Bank being adjudged the Most Socially responsible Bank in Ghana for 2010.
Instructively, Access Bank is one of the largest retail banks with presence in 39 locations across Ghana. It has presence in the United Kingdom and China and its one of the largest banks in Nigeria.
