Kenya launches mega $13.8bn railway project
Built by a Chinese state-owned firm and with funds from the Chinese government, the railway line is expected to dramatically increase trade and boost Kenya's position as a regional economic powerhouse.
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi form the the East African Community, a regional bloc that the five nations have used to boost economic integration.

Agri-hub applies for statutory measures on fruit
On behalf of directly affected groups in the fruit industry and in terms of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act [No. 47 of 1996], Agri-hub has approached the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for the establishment of statutory measures (registration, and records and returns) on table grapes, and deciduous and citrus fruit, for a four-year period.
A project to empower women with skills to start a business
Through skills training, Agri SA is now in a position to enable women in the Keimoes area to make use of business opportunities relating to agriculture and food production, promote creativity and also help with the development of children.
"Essentially it has to do with unlocking the inherent skills of women and supplementing this with what is necessary to operate a business," said Hendrik Ackerman, Chair of Agri SA's Labour and Social Policy Committee.

Dairibord Holdings rolls out Zimbabwe heifer importation programme
The heifer importation programme adopted by Dairibord Holdings limited in Zimbabwe is reported to have increased raw milk intake volumes at a time the country’s dairy sector faced a severe downturn due to the 2000 land reform programme
According to Anthony Mandiwanza, Dairibord Holdings chief executive officer, raw milk volumes purchased by the business increased by one per cent to 21.4mn litres from 21.2mn litres recorded in 2013.
