Govt to invest K3bn in dairy equipment

GOVERNMENT will next year invest more than K3 billion in buying  dairy equipment for small scale dairy farmers across the country.

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock director in charge of livestock Benson Mwenya said the money would come from the 2013 Budget.

He said the move was aimed at growing the sector to increase its contribution to the national economy.

Somalia: Banana Export Company Launched in Mogadishu

Mogadishu – In a further sign of return of hope and booming trade in a city not long time dubbed the world’s most dangerous city, a banana export company has been launched in Mogadishu Somalia’s capital city today.

The founders of the new company, Fruit Som say that their plan is to be an umbrella for all Somali farmers so that it can export Somalia’s banana to the outside world.

Gambia: U.S. $20.28 Million Grant to Boost Agriculture

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will provide a US$20.28 million grant to The Gambia to help improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers, with a particular attention to rural women and youths in the country.

The financing agreement for the National Agriculture Land and Water Management Development Project was signed today by Abdou Kolley, minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, and Kanayo F. Nwanze, president of IFAD.

More Than One Million Tons of Agricultural Goods Produced in Uije

Uíge – At least 1.615.240 tons of products were cultivated during the 2011/2012 season in northern Uije province by 1,400 peasants.

This was announced on Tuesday here by the director of Agrarian Development Institute (IDA), in Uije, Miguel Mbemba Mata.
