Nigeria, emerging hub for pharma market expansion in Africa
As growth opportunities continue to move away from traditional pharmaceutical markets and growth patterns in developed markets continue to flatten, many multinational companies (MNCs) like Norvatis, Pfizer, Sanofi, Johnson & Johnson, etc. look toward Africa, including Nigeria for their expanding global footprint.
This is evident following GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) plan to invest over $200million in Africa over the next five years, expanding manufacturing in Nigeria and Kenya and building five new factories-Rwanda, Ghana and Ethiopia given its attractive long-term growth potential.

African Medical Workers Discuss How to Adopt Healthcare Technology
HEALTH practitioners across the continent need to adopt the use of ICT as a major catalyst for the improvement of healthcare service delivery.
This was agreed upon by health experts at the opening of a workshop on Health Information System second version (DHIS2) in Rubavu District on Wednesday.
The 10-day workshop aims at strengthening national and regional capacity to successfully set up, design and maintain the DHIS2 software, building a community of DHIS2 users and experts in the different regions while facilitating the sharing of experience on the system.

Pharma machinery firms expect brisk sales to SMEs
With Gujarat's small and mid-sized drug companies eyeing rapid export growth, pharma machinery makers in the state are expecting a surge in demand this year. Orders from SMEs have increased in the last couple of years, and now constitute nearly 30-35 per cent of the total order book. The share is rapidly increasing because companies need state-of-the-art machinery in order to ensure regulatory compliance.
Gujarat-based machinery manufacturers almost unanimously point out that they expect robust growth this year, as orders from SMEs are likely to increase by at least 25-30 per cent. Bharat Panchal, owner of Brinda Pharma Technologies, which runs a plant near Odhav in Ahmedabad, pointed out, "Orders from smaller pharma companies have already started pouring in.
