
Azezo-Gorgora Road Construction in Progress

The expansion of infrastructure plays key role in facilitating development. Since long time, the government has been preoccupied in this endeavors much has been achieved. Among many projects the Azezo-Gorgora project asphalt road constructed by Tirfu Construction Company is among the impressing one.
During the working visit last week the Ethiopian Road Authority Communication Directorate Director Samson Wondimu said that the government allocated 720 million Birr for the road construction. The road has 53 kms long and 4 km width.
According to Samson, the construction began in 2005 E.C and up to now 47 kms is completed and the remaining 6 km will be completed in the next July 2008 E.C.
He further said that the road project in addition to enhancing socio-economic activities in the area it has strengthened the local contractor's capacity.
The project manager Abera Merga on his part said that the construction is undergoing based on the design and will be completed with in the agreed time and can serve for five years with out any maintenance.
Asked whether disperse settlement and terrain hamper the dose of the construction, he said that disperse settlement particularly in the urban process have its own negative impact on the speedy accomplishment of the road. However with in the coming with the cooperation of the Dembia Woreda Authority the problem expected to be settled.
A resident in Dembia Woreda on his part said that in the previous time due to the absence of viable road in the community, the community has suffered a lot, particularly in the real time. In the real time transport were interrupted when economic activities hampered. Thus, the new asphalt road brought gleam of hope to the community.
When the Azezo-Gorgora road project complete crops produce in the area such as Teff, sorghum, maize, rice, barley, wheat and spices could easily be transported to Gondar market and farmers would gain a lot.
In addition to this the road also strengthen public to public relation, facilitate trade and reduce transaction cost.
Furthermore, it connects Azezo with the Gorgora lake-resort road which is a tourist destination and boost woreda income.
Currently, many tourists travel 90-kms from Bahir Dar to the Monasteries in lake Tanna. But when the Azezo-Gorgora road construction complete tourists can travel from Gondar to lake Tanna Monasteries which stretched only 53-kms.
