Kenya: Kakamega Farmers to Get Cheap Fertiliser

KAKAMEGA has ordered subsidised fertiliser for distribution to farmers, Governor Wycliffe Oparanya says.

Touring Likuyani subcounty yesterday, he said the shipment will arrive in Kenya before end of this month.

Oparanya said the fertiliser will be sold to farmers at less than Sh2,000 per 50 kg bag.

The governor said the subsidised fertiliser is meant to ease access by farmers in an attempt to increase food production.

"It is absurd that what Kakamega currently produces can only last us for four months," Oparanya said.

"This means we shall have to rely on food imports from the neihbouring Nandi and Trans-Nzoia counties for the rest of the year."
