Global Office Furniture Industry Index Shows Improvement

The latest MADA / OFI Office Trends Survey revealed a slight positive trend for the commercial furniture industry, showing increase in gross shipments and tooling expenditures and a slight decrease in capital expenditures.
The July survey, prepared by Michael A. Dunlap & Associates, showed an overall index score of 55.62 on a 100 point scale, a slight bump from January’s rating of 54.36.  The highest recorded Index was 59.72 in July 2005; the lowest was 41.45 in April 2009. The average overall index is 54.37.

Kenya launches mega $13.8bn railway project

Built by a Chinese state-owned firm and with funds from the Chinese government, the railway line is expected to dramatically increase trade and boost Kenya's position as a regional economic powerhouse.

Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi form the the East African Community, a regional bloc that the five nations have used to boost economic integration.

You’ll never guess what this bathroom company got its taps to do

Cobra is best known for making bathroom fittings, something most of us don’t spend too much time thinking about, especially in public restrooms. In a bid to change that, the company decided to give people attending a show at The Baxter, a theater in Cape Town, South Africa a bit of a surprise.
By rigging up the taps to a sound system in the women’s bathroom, Cobra was able to make each of them play a section of orchestral music. All the taps running together in harmony created a symphonic performance. Pretty appropriate, given the range is called Symphony.

Africa As Biggest Contributor Towards Boosting Global Food Production

Researchers have indicated that it may be possible to feed 3 billion extra people without using additional land and water. The study has been published in the Journal Science and features the work of researchers from the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment.

According to the report, the biggest opportunities for boosting food production lie in Africa. Six countries to focus on, besides those of Africa, in order to make agriculture more sustainable include India, China, Brazil, Indonesia, the United States, Pakistan and Europe.
