Tune Hotels to invest US$25m in Kenya hotel
Tune Hotels Group plans to invest about US$25 million for its new hotel in Kenya, said Group CEO Mark Lankester.
"This is a new market for us in Africa and the details of this new venture will be announce in the next two weeks," he told the media after the launch of Tune Hotel by Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, Datuk Mahdzir Khalid at KLIA2 here today.
He said for the local market, the budget hotels operator also planned to open a few more hotels in Malacca, Kedah, Cyberjaya and Langkawi by the end of this year.
Marriott, Hilton to Open New Hotels in Nairobi
Construction of hotel properties is on the rise in Kenya and is projected to increase the total number of available rooms from 17,500 currently to 19,400 by 2018, according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Hotel bed nights are however expected to decline due to insecurity challenges that have reduced the number of foreign visitors into the country, affecting business in the tourism sector.

Despite South Africa’s economy facing headwinds, the hospitality sector is poised for further growth in the next five years in the wake of a number of inbound travellers into the African continent, according to a report issued by PwC today (http://www.pwc.com).
Nikki Forster, PwC Leader of Hospitality and Gaming, says: “Although South Africa’s economy has weakened, growth in international travel and tourism and rising room rates have bolstered the hospitality sector.”
