US leads initiative to increase energy in Africa

In five years' time, Africa might see significant improvements in energy, thanks to a US-led initiative called “Power Africa” unveiled by President Barack Obama during a recent three-nation visit to the continent. Students will be able to study after dark, clinics can keep their vaccines refrigerated and businesses can work normal hours.

The US government is leading the charge for Power Africa, helped by some American businesses and by organizations like the African Development Bank.

The initiative is part of a new US policy to focus on the continent's ability to support itself economically, politically and militarily, according to the Associated Press news agency. Observers say it veers from previous “aid-based” pledges in that its purpose is to encourage American businesses to invest. But these businesses will have to compete with China, Japan and Germany, which already have strong trade ties with Africa.

Africa, the next big thing for global hotels

Africa is a continent with as diverse resources as the people. In the Northern hemisphere, there lies the deserts and drylands, many with oil reserves worth billions. West Africa has its share of oil, with Nigeria being one of the key producers in the world.
Subsaharan Africa, commonly known as ‘black Africa’, where Kenya and East Africa lie has just discovered huge oil reserves. This is Africa, rich in untapped resources, under-utilised lands, plenty of manpower, numerous feuds and as critics like to point out, plenty of sleep.
Why sleep? Well, with the potential that Africa has, why is it by far the poorest continent, contributing less than three percent to the global GDP? It is indeed a sleeping giant.

Investment opportunities in sustainable tourism

Momentum from the Durban CBD along the N2, and the development of King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) has increased the accessibility and demand of properties along the Natal North Coast. This has resulted in an increased demand for residential and coastal resort developments. Developments such as Zimbali and Blythedale have also been catalysts in an unfolding coastal resort corridor stretching from Zimbali to Zinkwazi Beach.

The Nonoti Area is located on the seaward side of the N2 highway, on the Nonoti River, roughly mid-way between the inland towns of KwaDukuza and Mandini. Two smaller towns located on the northern side of the site, within five kilometres is the inland town of Nkwazi and the coastal town of Zinkwazi.
