Zimra launches solar powered systems

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority last week launched a solar system power supply at Nyamapanda Border Post to alleviate power shortages that delay customs clearance.
It is the first solar system power supply of its kind to be installed in the country. The system consists of 125 solar panels and an inverter with a capacity to produce 20KW.

155MW plant being developed by a British company is expected to create hundreds of jobs, increase electricity capacity and cut emissions
The largest solar power plant in Africa will be built in Ghana, the British company behind the plan said on Tuesday.
Source of much of the world’s cocoa and an increasingly significant oil producer, Ghana’s new drive to exploit the sun’s energy is predicted to create hundreds of jobs and increase the country’s electricity capacity by 6%, as well as cutting emissions.

Zimbabwe: Bidders Invited for Batoka Hydropower Plant

THE Zambezi River Authority has invited bids for the construction of a 1 600 megawatts hydro power plant at the Batoka Gorge, the authority said yesterday. ZRA, a statutory body jointly owned by Zimbabwe and Zambia and responsible for the Zambezi River, said the contract would be awarded on a Built, Operate and Transfer basis.
“ZRA hereby invites expressions of interest from interested companies or consortia with experience in developing hydro projects on a Build, Operate Transfer basis,†said ZRA.

Sata Orders Zesco…Develop More Hydro-Power Stations

PRESIDENT Michael Sata has directed Zesco to develop more hydro-power stations around Zambia to meet the increasing power demand.
Mr Sata said Zambia was faced with increased power demand, which required more investment in energy infrastructure.
The President said this in Chinsali yesterday when he commissioned the US$4.1 million Shiwan’gandu mini-hydro-power station.
