Eritrea receives up to $9 million for exploration work at the Alid geothermal field
A national energy plan for Eritrea was signed within the framework of the European Union's 11th EDF (European Development Fund). As part of that Eritrea will receive up to EUR 175 million ($200 million) for investment in the energy sector

Engen digs deep to partner world-leading uranium mine
Engen Petroleum, a leading producer and marketer of fuels, lubricants and oil-based products, is digging deep to ensure full operational efficiency for the Husab Uranium Project in Namibia during March 2016. China General Nuclear Power Holding Corp (CGNPC), China’s biggest producer of nuclear energy, has commenced mining at Husab. Once in full production, Husab will be one of the largest uranium mines in the world.

Largest Noodles Factory in Africa Switches to Solar Power
The first Africa installation of GE's solar hybrid technology will go ahead later this year at the Northern Noodles factory in Kaduna, northern Nigeria.Noodles are an increasingly popular food in Nigeria and Dufil Prima Foods are the manufacturers of Indomie instant noodles. The company's $50 million Kaduna factory is the largest noodle factory in Africa and is expected to employ over 25,000 Nigerians. This installation, says GE's Jeff Wyatt, is an example of what's possible for solar technology on a smaller commercial scale.

Largest solar farm in southern hemisphere launched
Late last week, Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson inaugurated the 175MW Solar Capital facility based in De Aar, Northern Cape. It is the largest solar farm ever completed in the Southern Hemisphere, Africa and the Middle East region.This launch of the facility is the culmination of a two-phase project. The first phase has a capacity of 85MW and the second phase an even larger capacity of 90MW.
